1. SIM Card Purchase: Upon arrival, ask your guide to take you to buy a SIM card. Bhutan has two mobile networks: B-Mobile and TashiCell; therefore, you will miss no communication opportunity.
2. Visa Requirements: Bhutan strictly demands every international visitor to obtain a visa per night of their visit. Ensure you have all your papers in order to ensure a smooth entry process.
3. Currency Matters The official currency is the Bhutanese Ngultrum (BTN). Always carry cash with you, especially to places away from towns where ATM and card facilities are restricted. The exchange of currency should always be done at the banks or authorized exchange bureaus.
4. SDF: There will be a Sustainable Development Fee of Rs 1200 per person, per night for Indian tourists. Children below 5 years are exempted, and children above 5 years, but below 12 years, attract a 50% reduction. Do not forget to carry your passport with at least six months of validity for entry.
5. Plastic Ban: Bhutan is plastic-free since 1999. Don't carry plastics and remain conscious of using eco-friendly while visiting.
6. Dress Code: Once you visit a Dzong (fortress-monastery), make sure to cover your arms and legs as respect towards local customs.
7. ID Proof: ID proof is a must for all the guests at the time of booking as well as at the time of arrival. Foreign nationals should carry their passport as PAN card is not accepted as valid proof.
8. Photography Etiquette: Always seek permission from authorities if you wish to take photos or videos inside sacred places such as monasteries.
9. Alcohol Consumption: It's a dry day on Tuesday in Bhutan. The people do not consume alcohol. It would be considerate to adopt this culture for a few days while you are there.
10. Tobacco Act: Since tobacco cannot be sold in Bhutan, tobacco can be brought into the country as a tourist. Cigarettes can only be smoked in smoking areas.
11. SIM Card Compatibility: Bhutan does not offer micro nor nano SIM cards. Please ensure that your mobile phone is compatible before your travels.
12. Cash and Credit Cards: Credit cards are accepted almost everywhere in cities and tourist spots, however; it would still be best to have some cash ready on hand for small transactions.
